What Is the Engaged Honor Society?

The Engaged Honor Society is the civic engagement initiative of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. For over 40 years Phi Theta Kappa has gone beyond the conventional paradigm for educational honor societies. During that time, the Society has launched dozens of innovative programs that first recognize the academic excellence within the corridors of community colleges, then seek to develop students through community service initiatives and leadership opportunities. During the 86th International Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Executive Director Rod A. Risley announced the Society's commitment to join the national efforts to promote civic engagement in higher education.

The Engaged Honor Society is a new idea for higher education, yet it is a platform that Phi Theta Kappa is more than capable of assuming. Phi Theta Kappa's diverse portfolio of programs and initiatives position thousands of students, faculty, and in some cases others, in hundreds of communities identifying community problems and vigorously seeking to serve the public good. These programs are smart, resourceful and effective. Plus, Phi Theta Kappa's commitment to excellence adds the passion that is truly making an impact and a difference.
